Three rivers— The Silverberry, Ravensthroat and Redstone connect to form a single navigable ribbon of azure water through the wild landscape of the Mackenzie Mountains, flowing from the backs of some of the highest peaks in the Northwest Territories all the way to the Mackenzie River. This river journey is perfect for rafting as its swift current and fun class 2-3+ rapids, paired with epic mountain scenery, will keep a smile on your face the whole way downstream! Wildlife abounds as you float along, Hotsprings await for you to soak in, and Grayling and Bull Trout await your cast. Rafting allows for almost anyone to experience the magic of the wilderness- though previous paddling experience is recommended-as your guide will expertly row you and your group through the canyons and rapids of this river system.
Tucked away between Nahanni National Park to the south and The Keele River to the north lies a vast watershed shrouded in mystery, almost unknown to the outside world. The ancient mountains ranges watching over the Silverberry/Ravensthroat Rivers have witnessed only a handful of river travellers in recent, modern history. For the few intrepid explorers who venture into this spectacular wilderness, the rewards will be unforgettable.
In 2017, Canoe North Adventures pioneered this previously unpaddled route through the Mackenzie Mountains and were stunned by the immense beauty of this untouched mountain landscape. Five beautiful canyons that pierce the sky, equal the beauty of the Nahanni. Kilometers of frolicking Class 2-3 whitewater, framed by mountains, create an unforgettable expedition opportunity. Add in epic hiking, two hot springs to soak in and an abundance of wildlife, one can easily see why this watershed has been kept secret for so long. It is simply the best whitewater rafting experience the Mackenzie Mountains has to offer.
Rafting is a fantastic way to experience a wild northern river, without the stress of having to navigate your own craft. Kickback and relax on the mellow sections of water, enjoy taking photos and chat with your fellow raftmates, and then hold on and enjoy the ride as your guide pilots you through the rapids! Note that fully loaded Expedition Rafts are incredibly stable, and an expedition rafting trip is a totally different experience from the day rafting trips you may have tried previously.
This is a slightly more challenging river than our Nahanni River Rafting experience, with more frequent rapids up to class 3 in difficulty- you will be hooting and hollering your way down the river. Guests must be between 10 & 80 years old, and over 70lbs to participate.
