Maja grew up canoeing with her family and the Ceyana Canoe Club in Alberta. Her path toward canoe guiding begun when she became a Paddle Canada instructor. Hooked on paddling, she took a comprehensive guide training program from HeLa Ventures called the Adventure Leadership Practicum and went on to guide and teach whitewater canoeing at HeLa in Alberta and Churchill River Canoe Outfitters in Saskatchewan.  Maja also has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Environmental Studies (aka the Outdoor Education program) from Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta and is now studying Transcultural European Outdoor Studies, a joint Masters degree from the University of Cumbria in England, the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, and University of Marburg in Germany. Her diverse interests include river tripping as a way to experience landscape and question human-nature relationships, challenging herself with solo and tandem whitewater paddling, and teaching canoeing. In the winter Maja doesn’t mind that the water is frozen as she enjoys skiing in any form, from cross country races to telemark to backcountry camping trips.
