Maddy first fell in love with Canada’s North while paddling the Coppermine river many years ago. Now, returning to the great north as a member of the Canoe North Adventures guiding team she is excited to once again experience the breathtaking beauty it has to offer. Having grown up in Oakville, Maddy’s love for the outdoors was sparked by family canoe trips throughout southern Ontario. Before attending YMCA Camp Pine Crest where her appreciation of all things nature was further solidified. Maddy has continued to be involved with the YMCA having spent the past six summers guiding whitewater canoe trips for youth through the YMCA Academy. With a particular focus on using the natural landscape to instil leadership, mindfulness, empathy and environmental awareness within today’s adolescents. Maddy attended Queen’s University, studying Theatre Studies and Geography, before graduating from the Queen’s Faculty of Education this past spring. Having spent time volunteering with Camp Outlook, an organization offering free canoe trips to Kingston youth, Maddy believes that everyone should be able to experience the life changing power of canoe tripping. An avid theatre goer and aspiring playwright Maddy holds a passion for merging outdoor adventure with storytelling and believes that the natural landscape is the best inspiration for sparking creativity! You can often find Maddy with a pen in hand journalling away while on river or attempting to capture the beauty of the natural landscape through watercolour (attempting being the key word)!
