New Air Services and Canoeing Base for CNA, 2009

New Operations base

Our most exciting news are consturcting our building project at the North-Wright Airways float base in Norman Wells, Northwest Territories. We have built an air services and canoeing base for paddlers and hikers who are using the float base to access outdoor adventure in the Greater Sahtu region of the NWT. The base serves as a hospitality and interpretive centre that enhances our operational capabilities for the outdoor adventure industry and other market sectors that require float plane charter service by North-Wright Airways. We offer services for both fully-guided and self-guided expeditions from this base.

The building, a 28′x48′ timber-frame and log construction, was built during the last two summers in conjunction with North-Wright’s infrastructure upgrades and historical restorations at the NWA float base. The North-Wright project includes three new docks, the creation of a historical airways museum with a vintage float plane hanger and several historical airways buildings, an open-air pavilion and the refurbishing of both the front of the maintenance hanger and the grader shed.

The purpose of this improvement project is based on the commitment of both North-Wright Airways and Canoe North Adventures over the long term to contribute to the growth of tourism in the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories. This commitment is based on the strong beliefs that the Sahtu has all the components necessary to make this region a significant global destination for outdoor adventure tourism.

We are appreciative of the partnerships that have grown out of these plans with North-Wright Airways and with the government offices of Industry, Tourism and Investment, and Sahtu Parks and Tourism. We appreciate the financial commitment from Industry, Tourism and Investment, GNWT to make this project possible. We look forward to more partnership development, regional product development and co-operative marketing initiatives.
