Our Vision

Canoe North Adventures will be a premier guiding company operating in the Northwest Territories and Yukon offering highly specialized guiding services for authentic paddling and hiking experiences on rivers and regions of the far north.

Canoe North Adventures will contribute to the branding of the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, particularly the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories, as a world-class Gateway destination for outdoor adventure.

Canoe North Adventures will be committed to building strong partnerships in northern Canada.

  • With the Sahtu and the Northwest Territories Tourism on projects that involve the branding of the NWT and the Sahtu as a world-class outdoor adventure destination.

  • With North-Wright Air on the project to upgrade the North Wright Airways float base area at DOT Lake to match the branding initiatives and the higher levels of infrastructure and amenities development required by a designation of Norman Wells and the Sahtu as a Gateway to  Adventure.

  • With communities in the Yukon and Northwest Territories to develop tourism products and marketing approaches that will enhance the interest of Canadian outdoor Adventure enthusiasts.

  • With other outdoor adventure companies, to coordinate marketing efforts to educate and inspire Canadians about the adventures and pristine wilderness in northern Canada.

To achieve this Vision, the following goals have been established for realization over the course of the next five years:

  • To brand Canoe North Adventures as a specialist in rivers and hikes that can be accessed through Norman Wells or Whitehorse through a thoughtful media, website and marketing campaign.

  • To augment the experience of our clients at the front-end and back-end of our expeditions and enhance the commitment of Canoe North Adventures in the Sahtu by building a Canoe North Adventures Hospitality and Interpretive Centre at the North-Wright Airways float base in Norman Wells.

  • To see the development of the North-Wright Airways float base add sustained benefits to increase in revenues for current and new outdoor adventure operators in Norman Wells, North-Wright Airways, the local business community and the local community.

The goals of the plan will be realized by achieving the following objectives:

  • Grow the number of trips Canoe North Adventures offers in the Sahtu from four to six per year to six to eight per year by 2012.
  • Offer a full-service experience for guided canoeing and hiking expeditions that centres on taking care of our clients from the moment they get off the plane in Norman Wells until they step back on the plane after the expedition.
  • Deliver significant wilderness expeditions  that offer logistically sound and safe paddling and hiking adventure with a continuing emphasis on fun, heartfelt, life-altering experiences loaded with respect, integrity and empathy.

  • Realign all marketing efforts to promoting the Sahtu, Northwest Territories brand Gateway to Adventure. To continue to attract clients by raising the awareness of the range, quality and number of world-class adventures that are available in the Gateway region of the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories.

  • Offer interpretive presentations into our current river expeditions. To offer a more in-depth interpretative experience for our clients in the Sahtu.

  • Offer extended travel opportunities in Inuvik, Yellowknife and other communities within the Sahtu region or with other tour operators within the Northwest Territories using a well-developed inventory of aboriginal and cultural activities and travel options.

  • Offer alumni paddlers new canoeing and hiking products by developing a more comprehensive outdoor adventure inventory that will grow capacity while limiting impact.

  • Manage facilities and outdoor tourism products that respect local values
