Four rivers— the Thundercloud, Silverberry, Ravensthroat and Redstone connect to form a single navigable ribbon of azure water through this uncharted land, flowing from the backs of some of the highest peaks in the Northwest Territories all the way to the Mackenzie River.
Tucked away between Nahanni National Park to the south and The Keele River to the north lies a vast watershed shrouded in mystery, almost unknown to the outside world. The ancient mountains ranges have witnessed only a handful of river travellers in recent, modern history. For the few intrepid explorers who venture into this spectacular wilderness, the rewards will be unforgettable.
In 2016, Canoe North Adventures pioneered this previously unpaddled route through the Mackenzie Mountains and were stunned by the immense untouched mountain landscape. Five beautiful canyons with powerful swirling currents, along with kilometres of frolicking Class II – III whitewater, framed by sky-piercing mountains, create an unforgettable expedition opportunity. Add in epic hiking opportunities, two hot springs to soak in and an abundance of wildlife, one can easily see why this watershed has been kept secret for so long. It is simply the best whitewater rafting experience the Mackenzie Mountains has to offer.
This expedition will be only the second group of river travellers to descend the upper part of this remote watershed. We are inviting Canoe North Alumni, searching for a pure wilderness adventure to join this epic rafting expedition.
